يُعد هذا المصنع خطوة استراتيجية لإنتاج سيانيد الصوديوم، وهي المادة الأساسية المستخدمة في استخلاص الذهب ومعالجة الخامات التعدينية.

وتسعى مصر من خلال هذا المشروع إلى تعظيم القيمة المضافة للغاز الطبيعي، بدلاً من تصديره كمادة خام، بما يدعم الاقتصاد الوطني.
